Could video games have a role in dementia care? - Mad Worldby Andy McNichol, at Mad World

As far as topics for video games go, social care is a pretty unusual one. But a computer games design student is using his experience as a care home assistant to develop a game aimed at stimulating the memories of people with dementia.

Life in Memory Lane will encourage players to recreate elements of their lives in the game. Players can pick an occupation, character traits and geographical locations that have landmarks designed to trigger memories like post offices, chemists or pubs.

    I think this is wonderful! Long-term care facilities have been using the Wii games for years, for fun as well as for therapeutic reasons. It’s nice to see that people are starting to see that there’s a genuine market for this kind of technology with our elders.
