Social Media and Mobile Phones in the work with vulnerable young people – MUNCH POKE PING CONFERENCE [Video]

On Monday 19th November 2012 the MUNCH POKE PING Conference was held in London.  MUNCH POKE PING is a two year research and film-making project run by E-safety and child advocate Stephen Carrick-Davies exploring some of the challenges and opportunities that vulnerable and excluded young people face when using social media and mobile technology.

The conference had four main aims:

  • Disseminate the findings on the MPP project and celebrate and validate the work being done in PRUs including by young people.
  • Draw out principles for how online risks can be better managed and provide examples of how active engagement and involvement with young learners is crucial.
  • Capture the key needs of staff who work with vulnerable young people when it comes to social media training.
  • Consult on recommendations for what is needed going forward.

The video below captures some of the inspiring atmosphere of the day.

On the conference site you now have access to keynote presentations, a short video, links to media articles and the feedback from the 130 people who attended the event. You can also contribute to the discussion of what is needed next on a Google Share Document.
