IPad apps for children with special needs

Jinny Gudmundsen, author of the new book iPad Apps for Kids, posted a Special for USA TODAY about „iPad apps for special needs kids“. The issues the apps he mentions address range from“ identifying emotions to communicating to practicing social and perceptual skills to recognizing word reversals and more.“

So if you are social worker who works with children with special needs and you have the chance to use an iPad at work (… you should have the chance to use an iPad, shouldn’t you?) maybe you should try out some of these apps.

  • Touch and Learn – Emotions … an app for children ages 3-up who need practice deciphering emotions
  • Proloquo2Go … this expensive app ($190) which is constantly updated lets kids tap on symbols to let the iPad speak for them
  • LetterReflex … help children with dyslexia to overcome letter reversals like mixing up b’s and d’s or p’s and q’s
  • The Social Express … helps children who have trouble understanding social situations
